Fourty-Five Vinyl
Leptogium intermedium
This small vinyl is the second smallest of its kind found locally. In our area, it grows most commonly on old arbutus trees, sometimes with silver-rimmed crackers. Cellulose vinyl (L. cellulosum), the smallest, is about half the size and occurs in more humid environments. Fourty-five vinyl is known on Salt Spring Island at four sites, including the Makaroff and North View Nature Reserves.
