Ecology: Coastal Douglas-fir and Arbutus
Public Trails: A spectacular peak with views north and west, Mt. Erskine is part of a larger protected area of almost 240 hectares with a variety of trails, including a steep public access trail from Collins Road. Dogs are permitted as long as they are on a leash. Unfortunately, loose dogs disturb ground-nesting birds and other critters who consider this their home.
Acquisition: Mt. Erskine was private land until 2005 when an intensive fundraising drive by the Conservancy secured it for future generations. It is now owned by the SSI Conservancy, the Nature Conservancy of Canada, and the Province of BC. It is leased to BC Parks to oversee the management.
