Macoun’s Meadow-foam Limnanthes macounii

Locally, these flowers are one of our surest signs of spring and in a mild year they can begin blooming at the end of February. They’re found in vernal pools and small seepages, usually in close proximity to the seashore. It’s considered a narrow endemic, only occurring at scattered sites on southern Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands, in only one location on Salt Spring Island.
