Coastal Scouler’s Catchfly Silene scouleri grandis

An iconic rare species on the southern Gulf Islands, Coastal Scouler’s catchfly is known on Salt Spring Island only from one location. It persists on hot grassland slopes within wire cages designed to protect it from grazing sheep and deer. The only other current occurrences within British Columbia are on Trial and Oak Bay Islands. Flowering in August.
