Batwing Vinyl Lichen Leptogium platinum
Not exactly like a bat wing with all those crowded fruiting bodies, this curious lichen does have the same transverse wrinkles that help distinguish it from Peacock vinyl. The real difference is in habitat: Batwing vinyl grows over moss and rock on seepy, partially shaded rock faces. Protected on Salt Spring Island in the Manzanita Ridge Nature Reserve and at Mt. Maxwell Provincial Park.
