November 15, 2017, was a blue-skyed day. It was the day that five people associated with the Salt Spring Island Conservancy travelled to downtown Victoria to attend the 3-day National Land Summit, hosted by the Land Trust Alliance of BC.
Delegates from land trusts, conservancies, cities, and other organizations across Canada gathered to attend workshops and hear speakers. The workshops presented excellent learning opportunities, and we had many to choose from―everything from grant proposals, fundraising, strategic planning, community engagement, branding, standards and practices, to partnerships and more.
Keynote speakers included Grand Chief Stewart Phillip and Joan Phillip as well as Alaya Boisvert of the Blue Dot campaign with the David Suzuki Foundation. The work that other attendees are doing was also rich in lessons and insights.
It was truly an inspirational three days, and we’ve brought back many nuggets of knowledge to put to use.
