American Glasswort and Sea-milkwort

Estuary Marsh [Red-Listed]

With the exception of eelgrass, this plant community occurs at the lowest elevation band in estuaries where there is tidal flooding. The only other plants tough enough to share this salty environment, seashore saltgrass and Lyngbye’s sedge, intermix before forming their own dominant communities slightly higher up. Rare on Salt Spring Island at the head of Long Harbour and along Booth Canal.
